Balancing Act

Co-produced by Joe Sir and J.D. Huitt,  Hallowed Ground Outdoors is an exploration into the depths of who we are as hunters. In “Production Notes”, they’ll take you behind the scenes to look at what drives both the team and the show.

Life is a balancing act. Whether it’s with work, pleasure, faith, or family, all of us make the decision for ourselves what is going to hold the most weight in our lives. But that doesn’t mean that there isn’t tension between all of those things from time to time. This week’s episode follows one of those moments of tension that I’m sure a lot of people can identify with.

Joe Sir of Hallowed Ground Rattling In Some Iowa Giants.

As the 2012 season approached, so did something else for both Joe and Adam: the due date for their pregnant wives. Anybody who is a diehard deer hunter and who has been expecting a baby during the height of deer season knows what they were going though. The level of intensity that goes into pursuing a deer ramps up with the knowledge that your priorities are going to be shifting mid-season (as they should).

Joe Sir of Hallowed Ground with his 2012 Iowa Buck

While both guys hunted hard, the end result was different for both. Joe was able to harvest a mature buck within a few weeks of his daughter being born. And while Adam was able to take a few does and had a close call with a great buck (which ended in disaster), he ended the season with a buck tag still in his pocket. For both, the 2013 season is one that will always be etched into their memories, but not necessarily for the reasons that most would think.

Hallowed Ground Outdoors Airs Wednesday’s at 730AM ET, Friday’s at 6PM ET, and Saturday’s at 6PM ET.
