Michael Bane defies stereotypes. He has leveraged a career as a journalist, author, professional adventurer and acknowledged expert on firearms into some of the most innovative – and successful – shooting sports programming in the world.
Shooting Gallery, which Bane created and hosts, is now filming its 17th season, the most successful shooting show ever. He has traveled around the world covering every aspect the world of firearms. In addition, Bane’s production involvement such shows as The Best Defense, Gun Stories with Joe Mantegna, and Shootout Lane has helped raise the bar for outdoor programming of the world of firearms. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including 7 “Tellys” and multiple Outdoor Channel “Golden Moose” awards for broadcasting excellence, an Outdoor Channel Lifetime Achievement Award and a Communicator of the Year award from the Professional Outdoor Media Association and the National Shooting Sports Foundation.
Bane was actively involved in the creation of 4 shooting sports and regularly shoots competitively. He is also a big game hunter and a vet bad gunsmith. His weekly podcast, Down Range Radio, is the most successful firearms podcast on the Internet and an award-winner in its own right.
He is the author of 22 books, 21 non-fictions and one novel. Most recently, he ghostwrote the biography of his longtime friend Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat. Bane’s OVER THE EDGE: A REGULAR GUY’S ODYSSEY IN EXTREME SPORTS is considered a classic in the field and led to the Wall Street Journal commenting, “How did Michael Bane become the George Plimpton from hell?” His WHITE BOY SINGING THE BLUES on the relationship between music and culture has been called, “One of the five best books ever written on rock and roll” and is used extensively in college courses on American popular culture.
Michael Janich has been an avid student and instructor of self-defense for more than 40 years. He has an extensive background in the Filipino martial arts, pencak silat, judo, aikido, boxing, Savate, and military combatives. Mike was inducted into Black Belt magazine’s prestigious Hall of Fame as Weapons Instructor of the Year in 2010. Janich is also one of the foremost modern authorities on handgun point shooting and is one of the few contemporary instructors to have been personally trained by the late close-combat legend Colonel Rex Applegate.
Janich served nine years in the U.S. Army Intelligence and
Security Command, including a three-year tour at the National Security Agency
(NSA). He is a two-time graduate with honors of the Defense Language Institute
in Monterey, California (Vietnamese and Chinese-Mandarin) and a recipient of
the Commandant’s Award for outstanding linguistic achievement. Janich also
served as an Intelligence Officer in the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and
an Investigation Team Leader for the Joint Casualty Resolution Center (JCRC)
and Joint Task Force-Full Accounting (JTF-FA), leading numerous investigations
into remote areas of Vietnam and Laos to resolve the fates of American
prisoners of war and missing in action (POW/MIA).
A prolific author, Janich has been published in all the
major publications in the tactical and martial arts industries and is the
author or co-author of more than a dozen books and over 20 instructional
videos, including Bullseyes Don’t Shoot Back: The Complete Textbook of Point
Shooting for Close Quarters Combat, which he wrote with the late Col. Rex
Janich is a leading authority on edged-weapon design and
tactics and his knife designs have been produced by Spyderco, BlackHawk Blades,
Masters of Defense, Combat Elite, and many noted custom knife makers. He is
best known as the founder and lead instructor of the Martial Blade Concepts
(MBC) and Counter-Blade Concepts (CBC) systems of self-defense, as well as
their related systems of unarmed and impact-weapon tactics. Janich is in extremely
high demand as an instructor and teaches regular seminars for civilians, law
enforcement, and special units around the world.
Janich is currently the Special Projects Coordinator for the
Spyderco knife company of Golden, Colorado. With Spyderco’s support, he also
co-hosts The Best Defense on Outdoor Channel, sharing his extensive knowledge
of armed and unarmed self-defense and personal and home security.
Mike Seeklander is the current owner of Shooting-Performance LLC (www.shooting-performance.com), a full service training company and the American Warrior Society (www.americanwarriorsociety.com). Mike is also the co-host of The Best Defense, one of Outdoor Channels leading firearm instructional show.
Prior to that, as an employee of the Federal Government,
Mike has served as the Branch Chief and Lead Instructor for the Firearms
division with the Federal Air Marshal Service as well as a Senior Instructor at
the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (F.L.E.T.C.).
Seeklander has extensive formal training and experience in all phases of military and law enforcement training. He is a highly sought after tactical and competitive trainer and a high-level performer on the competition handgun circuit. Currently, Mike is a nationally ranked competitor on the practical handgun competition circuit and has authored/produced instructional books, DVD’s and has developed hundreds of lesson plans specifically related to basic and advanced firearms training.
As a local law enforcement officer with the Knox County
Sherriff’s Department as well as the Knoxville Police Department mike worked in
corrections as well as patrol and with the Organized Crime division.
In 1990 Mike joined the United States Marine Corps and was
trained as an Intelligence Specialist with Top Secret clearance.
Mike is a combat veteran of Desert Storm/Shield (Gulf war 1). He
holds secondary MOS’s of Combat Engineer and Primary Marksmanship Instructor.
Mike is the recipient of numerous awards and honors in the
law enforcement community, and as a semi-professional shooter.
